but you did mention barack obama, you did mention that he's the first african-american president to be re-elected and some talk about tim scott and the president of the idea of being post-racial. are we there? >> certainly not. the idea that we're breathless of the appointment of a black american appointed. also the gubernatorial position which is the other statewide position. look, we elect presidents from a very narrow categories of people. senators, governors, and vice presidents. until we have a substantial number of people as governors, senators, and vice presidents, we're not really looking at a time when our presidency will be dramatically different. >> and until we don't have to talk about this. >> right. >> don't forget to catch melissa perry as she hosts melissa harris-perry. >>> tragedy strikes the hospital. an employee connected to the prank calls by australian djs. we earned them. and if washington tries to cram decisions about the future... of these programs into a last minute budget deal... we'll all pay the price. aarp is fighting to protect seniors with responsible...

we've just had an election. the people had a choice between mitt romney and president obama who said let's have a balanced plan, and let's give tax cuts to the middle class. what is he talking about? this is about tax cuts. the president is saying, renew the payroll tax cut. give tax cuts to every dollar earned up to $250,000. i don't know what they're thinking, thomas. but obviously, they are putting it all on the line for the koch brothers and sheldon adelson who earn billions of dollars. they're selfish. and there's a group called patriotic millionaires who are saying please, please, tax us fairly. and here's the point. the president is saying to the millionaires and billionaires, we're just taking you back to the tax rates that you had when bill clinton was president. and i would like to remind everybody, we had the greatest prosperity then when everyone paid their fair share. 23 million new jobs. and why is it? because the middle class had the money to spend out there, to stimulate this economy. it's a cons

and that is that republicans were saying the very same things after they lost to president obama in 2008. this is not a new thing for republican party to go through this kind of soul-searching after losing a big and important election. and i think that's the important thing to note here. and that's what mike murphy is kind of saying too. look, they know it's not about technology. it's not about turnout. they do have to focus more on policies that indicator to a broader part of the electorate, and not just this small sliver that they've been talking. to. >> boris, you were making -- >> first of all, every party when it loses a big election, in 2000 the democrats went through it, 2004 they went through. you lose a big election, you have to look inside and see how you win. it's like anything in the world. sports teams are the same thing when they lose. >> it depends on the sports team. >> hopefully. >> you mentioned staying away from social issues. last week we heard from rick santorum, one of the 16, 17 front-runners in the gop field. apparently he may make a comeback in 2016. >> no. >> i
